Clinical Pilates
Pilates
Over the past decade Pilates has become a popular form of exercise in the community and can be taught by people with varying qualifications. It can be difficult to know who to go to and if it is a safe form of exercise for you, especially if you have had neck or back pain in the past.
What is Clinical Pilates?
Clinical Pilates is a form of Pilates that is taught by Physiotherapists to people who have sustained an injury or have had recurrent episodes of back pain. It is aimed at strengthening your deep abdominal muscles to improve the muscular support and stability of your spine and improve your posture. People participating in Clinical Pilates strengthen all muscles throughout their body to optimise function and reduce pain and injury risk.
Why do Clinical Pilates?
It is well known that pain in the body can inhibit the function of the surrounding muscles. Once pain has gone the muscle function does not automatically return to normal and it is necessary to strengthen the muscles to reduce the likelihood of the pain returning again. Because Clinical Pilates is supervised by physiotherapists you can be confident that the exercise you are doing is safe for your back and specific to your needs.
Clinical Pilates at Bounce
Our physiotherapists prescribe Clinical Pilates that is combined with the evidence base around spinal stability. Our classes have been designed by a group of highly experience clinicians to ensure people of various levels of activity and ability, can safely participate in and benefit from Clinical Pilates training.
At Bounce we conduct three streams of Pilates to accommodate people of every ability and their individual stage of rehabilitation. Our Pilates classes are conducted in eight week terms.
The streams of Pilates offered at Bounce Health Group are:
- Functional Pilates from beginner to advanced, for those recovering from injury.
- Fitness Pilates for persons who are injury free and realise the importance of maintaining core stability. Ideally incorporated into your regular exercise regime.
- Sports Stability for our semi-elite & elite athletes wanting to gain that competitive edge and minimise their injury risk.
Before you commence we offer an optional individual session with a physiotherapist to teach you how to use your deep abdominal muscles using a Real Time Ultrasound machine so you can see your muscles in action!
