Success at the U18 Basketball National Championships
Bounce physiotherapists Paul Haas and Jenni Allen have recently
returned from Gawler, South Australia with gold medals after their
respective Womens and Mens Teams won the final and the Australian
Title.
Both physios had their work cut out for them with the nationals being
regarded as one of the bigger challenges in the basketball calendar
both for the players and the support staff.
Over a long preparation period and then the 10 day tournament, Jenni
and Paul spent countless hours screening athletes, implementing
prevention strategies and then treating and managing players during the
campaign. Both having dual roles as high performance managers and
physiotherapists, meant they had little time for anything but caring
for the athletes and advising coaches.
Both teams did not drop a single game throughout the tournament and
having experienced physios as part of the support staff ensured that
the key players were up and running for the finals.
From hydration strategies to ice baths post game, and diet assessment
and injury management, both were very satisfied with the way things
turn out.
Paul went on to say by the nature of working with a team, you need to
ensure you prepare well so that when you arrive you have given every
athlete the opportunity to play and play well. As it goes with junior
basketball, most players had some sort of niggle or small injury
however by working with the coaching staff, we could manage each
players load so they were right when they were needed most such as
the grand final. I am one to be very meticulous with how a look after a
team so I can tell you I was stuffed by the end of the tournament.
However it was worth it and I am so proud of how the girls went about
their preparation and recovery.
We will look to see if both Jenni and Paul put their hands up for next year.
